Power restored and businesses open in parts of Muhlenberg County

Messenger-InquirerPower has been restored to parts of Muhlenberg County, allowing some needed businesses to open.Rick Newman, the county judge-executive, said a few areas along U.S. 62 in Greenville, Powderly and Beechmont have had power restored. Newman said power was restored after engineers and technicians figured out that power could be routed along lines still available in other areas.
“They said they were able to get some of the main transmission lines up and running,” Newman said. “It’s sort of scattered around the county and hopefully they’ll have more connected in the morning. It’s helped us tremendously.”
As a result, Newman said, people have access to some grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and additional shelter space is being prepared. In the meantime, Newman urged people to appropriately use generators and heaters. Misuse of those is already putting people at risk, Newman said.
“We’re very concerned about people not using their generators properly and their kerosene heaters,” Newman said. “We actually had five or six incidents with our emergency response teams and emergency teams rescuing people in their homes from carbon monoxide poisoning.”Here is a list of businesses, services and shelters now available in Muhlenberg County:
A boil-water advisory is in effect for the entire county.
All schools are canceled until further notice.
The Madisonville Community College Campus in Muhlenberg County is closed until further notice.
Anyone requiring medical attention should go to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Anyone having difficulty with their medication should contact their local pharmacy.
Under the authority of the Emergency Operations Center Medical Director, if a person does not have a prescription bottle, their blanket prescriber or pharmacy has been given the authority to provide a refill for one month. If they do not have that, they will have to go to the emergency room.
Oxygen tanks with concentrators can be taken to shelters to be plugged in. None are available to be delivered to individuals.
Western Kentucky RV can fill propane cylinders up at their park.
Hucks is open to the public with diesel fuel and gas available.
Old National Bank Airport Branch is open.
The Muhlenberg Medical Center & Pharmacy will be open Monday.
All 5 garbage sites will open on Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Household trash only, no bulk items and no debris.
The Graham landfill will open tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. You must use the Kentucky 601 entrance only.
