MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) - Muhlenberg County, with its scattered rural communities, is facing possibly weeks without power.
Extra crew members have come from all parts of the United States to help a county that has experienced three natural disasters in the last year. Officials say this storm has been the most devastating for the county because it's so wide spread and it affects everyone.
"You got more people involved," said Emergency Management Director Keith Putnam. "You got less volunteers because everyone is tied up because they're affected theirselves."
On day four of darkness in Muhlenberg County, with no signs of light ahead, a main transmission line has to be repaired and that could take a minimum of two weeks.
"The longer we go the more hardships there are going to be," said Putnam. "The biggest thing is that we need to get people out of the area. They'll start having food problems, heating problems and it's going to be hard to supply them with that."
The emergency disaster service out of Lexington has been providing food and shelter for utility crews. The message to residents is, "Just knuckle down and keep on going. That's about it."
The Red Cross has set up shelters at the First and Second Baptist churches in Greenville. Both are supplying food and heat for residents.
